These awards are an opportunity to recognize B.C. public service employees who consistently work hard and go above and beyond to provide a broad range of services to citizens, said Premier Campbell. There are almost 10,000 public service employees working in the Lower Mainland and contributing to the province through their dedication, leadership, creativity. This year, employees from the Lower Mainland received awards in the Innovation, Leadership, Organizational Excellence and Partnership and Service Excellence categories. Public service employees live and work in over 280 communities in every region of the province, said Citizens Services Minister Ben Stewart, whose ministry administers the awards. It s important to recognize that the public service is a place where people can achieve great things that make a real difference in the lives of our citizens. Staff at the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General received two awards for their achievements in innovation and service excellence. One award went to the BC Coroners Service for developing a new model that enables the cross referencing of forty years of case information, and the second honour went to staff responsible for a new road safety initiatives funding model, now in effect in partnership with ICBC. Community Services Manager Daniel Bibby received an award for his inspirational leadership at the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Staff at the Ministry of Housing and Social Development received honours for their collaborative approach on the Homelessness Intervention Project. Premier Campbell announced this year s recipients via streaming online video presentation, an innovative approach to the regional awards ceremony. This new approach was taken to balance the importance of employee recognition while reducing travel costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Similar presentations honoured Interior and Northern employees earlier this month. Employees in the Vancouver Island region will be recognized at an online presentation on April 29 and there will be a provincial award ceremony in Victoria on May 26.
