Immigration Minister: Israeli Citizens

Incorrect Word Dept: It is interesting how the use of a single incorrect word in an article can create a totally misleading impression. Reporter Nicholas Keung asked Israel s immigration minister why droves of former Israeli citizens from Russia have sought asylum in Canada in recent years?, according to The Star. While there may have been some isolated cases of individuals who have tried to enter Canada by claiming asylum, this hardly constitutes the droves that Mr. Keung refers to and re: Israel offers incentives to lure expats back home, Nov. 24 The use of the word asylum implies that the immigrants have come to Canada to escape persecution and fears of harm. I have not met one single Russian Jewish immigrant who did not enter Canada by the usual means of a proper application. As reported in the news.
