Circus Tent Dept: For the past year, Harrison has been Georges Vanier Secondary School s artist-in-residence a pilot project for the Toronto District School Board, and part of their push to make schools safer for gay youth, according to The Star. But his studio doors are always open to the school s nearly 800 students whatever their feelings about his sexual orientation and spencer J. Harrison and his gigantic circus tent are a first. Harrison is not a teacher. Technically, his only responsibility is the artwork: a 6-by-5-metre canvas tent whose outer walls depict images from Barnum & Bailey freak show posters, and whose inner walls are a narrative of the artist s own experiences growing up as a gay youth. As
reported in the news.
