Canada: Citizenship Ceremonies

Country Dept: As a woman who grew up in a Muslim majority country, I applaud Canada's new immigration ruling regarding the removal of niqabs and other face coverings while taking the citizenship oath and wish the same rule would be applied to all aspects of Canadian public life, according to Vancouver Sun. I have been living in Canada for over 22 years, and without a doubt believe that more than any other country in the world, Canada is fully tolerant toward different faiths, and respects religious freedom, as otherwise we would not have seen an increased number of mosques and temples in many Canadian cities, particularly over the last 20 years and re: Veils banned at citizenship ceremonies, Dec. 13 In fact, I am puzzled why people who are extremely sensitive toward their traditional practices choose a secular and liberated country like Canada to live in.
