Georges Marciano: Quebec Superior Court Justice Mark Schrager

Old Montreal Dept: Quebec Superior Court Justice Mark Schrager also ordered the immediate return to Marciano of tens of millions of dollars worth of property including 18 mortgage-free buildings in Old Montreal, an important North American art collection, an 84.37-carat white diamond named for daughter Chol , and his prized assortment of coins, Ferrari cars and Rolex watches - even if the case goes to appeal, according to Montreal Gazette. The secret seizure order had been granted to five former employees of Marciano from California seeking to collect on a $370-million defamation suit they won in a cross-suit against him in 2009 after he lost a court case in which he accused them of trying to embezzle assets worth $413 million and the massive search and seizure operation carried out against multimillionaire Guess Jeans cofounder Georges Marciano in Montreal last September was declared invalid on Thursday after a Quebec judge issued a stinging rebuke of the way the secret court order was obtained by lawyers. In one of the largest seizures of its kind in Montreal, it took a dozen bailiffs and their helpers close to 10 days to haul away Marciano's possessions, including the massive sculpture outside of Lhotel, the Old Montreal hotel he bought that housed much of the painting collection and a personal residence on the top floor. At the same time, all of Marciano's bank accounts, including a $10-million family trust, were frozen and all of his personal records, computers and documents confiscated. (www.immigrantscanada.com).
