Oath Of Citizenship Dept: That's the thought I had when federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced Monday morning in Montreal that new Canadians will now have to show their faces when swearing the oath of citizenship, according to Vancouver Sun. How much more vast and important than driving a car is the privilege of becoming a Canadian citizen - per-haps the greatest privilege that can be granted on the entire planet and every once in a while, you hear of a new rule or law and think to your-self, you mean that isn't happening already? I call those "say what?" moments. For obvious reasons, face coverings must be removed when getting one's driver's licence. And many women who wear either niqabs the face veil that leaves a slit for the eyes or the burka which has a mesh that also covers the face regularly remove their face coverings to be granted the privilege to drive a vehicle. Indeed, the woman at the centre of a case now before the Supreme Court of Canada, who is fighting to be allowed to wear a veil while testifying against male relatives she accuses of raping her, removed her veil in order to be allowed to drive a car.
