Provincial Population: Population

Population Growth Dept: The bureau reported this week that the provincial population has now passed the milestone count of 8 million, up a million since the previous landmark number of 7 million recorded in 1990, according to Montreal Gazette. The salient feature of this latest batch of statistics is that population growth in the province is now primarily driven by immigration, which was not the case as recently as 20 years ago, when it was still propelled by natural growth - that is, births minus deaths and the latest population figures issued by the provincial statistics bureau show that diversity is increasingly becoming the hallmark of 21st-century Quebec.
