Dept: What this has done is give us a chance, as a community, to tell ignorant members of all races/sex/classes what it means to be Canadian. As an "Indo-Canadian" born and raised in Vancouver, one of the things that has always gotten under my skin are hyphenated Canadians. Everyone is "Canadian" and that's all that should matter, according to Vancouver Sun. Everyone is an immigrant unless they belong to the First Nations communities in Canada. So it doesn't matter what race, culture or class you belong to. It's time for all of us to stop and take a look at the problem of discrimination and racism that occurs and is present in all races and classes. We need to take on this issue and use it to strengthen our community rather than let it crack us apart and this should never have happened, it's disappointing and a sad thing to see in 2012. Let the kids play soccer - race should never have been an issue. The rule was created 10 to 15 years ago, when you saw a lot less of the Indian community involved in soccer and the rule was meant to help attract players and help them develop as players. This rule should be removed as the Indo-Canadian community does not face the same hurdles it did when the rule was created. It's time to start the difficult discussion about what it means to be Canadian.
