Tooch Tucci Dept: The three friends, all in their early 20s, had opened a movie theatre, commandeering a cinema, empty and forgotten beneath a Chinatown apartment building. Powered only by youthful enthusiasm, they breathed geeky life into the space. As dinner guests, they were unconcerned with promoting their business; merely grateful for a free meal, according to The Star. Wanting to say a proper goodbye to the theatre, I ve invited a dozen friends for a matinee of Big Night , starring Stanley the Tooch Tucci and Tony Shalhoub as Italian immigrant brothers, struggling to maintain their restaurant and in 146 columns, a lot of interesting characters have come over for dinner. When people ask me to name a favourite, I say Nigel Agnew, Alex Woodside and Charlie Lawton. It was heartbreaking to hear that after two years, the Underground Cinema was closing , victim of the property owner s financial problems. But it doesn t make their achievement any less impressive or inspiring. They made real what to most of us would be a daydream.
